Direct Patient Care - February 2026
What is Direct Patient Care (DPC) and why is it sweeping the nation?
Today we're interviewing Dr. Staci Jordan who has practiced with College Park Family Care Center for the past 25 years, but recently decided to launch a Direct Patient Care practice with Dr. Charles Sullivan at Oakhaven Health DPC in Overland Park, Kansas. Dr. Jordan and Dr. Sullivan are the latest in a growing wave of doctors who decided to leave the world of insurance-driven healthcare in order to serve patients in a way that is more consistent with their values as physicians. No more undue influence by insurance companies that seem to be more interested in satisfying the board room rather than patient healthcare quality.
Interview February 2026
Dr. Staci Jordan graduated from the prestigous UMKC School of Medicine in 1998 and completed her Residency at Goppert Family Care Residency in 2001. She is a mother of two and wife of Troy Jordan, founder of HealthWare, LLC, providing consulting services to start-up medical practices like Oakhaven Health DPC.
Dr. Jordan, what was it that most interested you in Direct Patient Care?
After 25 years of practicing medicine I began to feel I was on a treadmill with a line of patients moving through at a steady pace, feeling pressure to keep the line moving while wanting to ensure each patient's healthcare needs came first.
What was your biggest motivator for starting your own practice?
Being able to partner with patients to improve their health without interference from insurance companies or large healthcare corporations was my main motivator. Having a hand on the steering wheel for a practice to help craft it to be better was also an important factor.
When are you starting at Oakhaven Health DPC?
My first day at Oakhaven will be April 15, 2026. It is hard to leave College Park because I have so many memories there, but I am looking forward to the many great things we will be able to do for patients at Oakhaven Health DPC.
Are you worried that some patients will not be able to follow you?
It is sad to think about patients who will not be able to make the move with me, but I am grateful for those who are interested in a subscription based practice, which ensures my ongoing availability without having to retire early or go back to working for insurance companies.
What would you say to patients who have good health insurance, but pay a lot for premiums?
I would advise them to look at their annual spend on healthcare and consider buying an HSA-compatible health plan with a lower premium cost and couple that with a DPC subscription like the one we have at Oakhaven Health DPC in Overland Park, KS. For most people, their HSA will pay for their DPC membership fees and the premium savings will result in a net annual savings while gaining concierge-like healthcare, which in the past was reserved for the wealthy. DPC practices like Oakhaven Health DPC make it possible for average income families to get individualized care that wastes less time and gets to the heart of medical matters more effectively.
